The Ontario Parasport Games are coming to Mississauga in 2021. The announcement was made today by MPP Deepak Anand, Mississauga-Malton, at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre during a Parasport Try-It Day held for high school students from eight local schools.
“I am excited that the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport (MTCS) has named Mississauga as host of the 2021 Ontario Parasport Games,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “An inclusive community gives everyone an opportunity to shine. The Ontario Parasport Games will help highlight Mississauga’s commitment to accessibility and inclusive programming for all. I look forward to welcoming these young athletes from across our great province in 2021.”
The Ontario Parasport Games are a part of the MTCS Games Ontario Program that include summer and winter Games for youth as well as the 55+ summer and winter Games. The 2021 Ontario Parasport Games will bring up to 400 athletes from across the province to compete in wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, boccia, goalball and sledge hockey. The Ontario Parasport Games are hosted every two years and will take place in the spring of 2021.

The 2019 ICFF Youth program will feature 12 films, burgeoning from an Italian film festival to a marvellous multicultural celebration of film, which includes 2 Canadian-made movies: La Légende de Sarila (The Legend of Sarila) and Nelly et Simon: Mission Yéti (Nelly and Simon: Mission Yeti).
The International Contemporary Film Festival Youth returns with another fantastic program from April 8th to the 13th. Presented by IC Savings, ICFF Youth continues to grow, now featuring more international films than ever. Screenings will take place at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto, Cineplex Yorkdale, Cineplex Cinemas in Vaughan and SilverCity Richmond Hill.
The 2019 line-up features movies in Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and Cantonese with English subtitles.
La Légende de Sarila (French)(The Legend of Sarila) is a Canadian animated movie based on Inuit culture and tradition. Set in northern Canada in 1910, it tells the story of three young Inuits, who head for the legendary land of Sarila in search of food for their clan.
Leo Da Vinci: Missione Monna Lisa (Italian) (Leo Da Vinci: Mission Mona Lisa) is a North American premiere and a co-production between Italy and Poland. It tells the tale of a brilliant inventor who finds himself on an adventure to find a hidden treasure to help his friend Lisa, who has lost everything. Prince’s Trust Canada, a national charity established by HRH The Prince of Wales, and Marriott International, a leading global lodging company with more than 6,700 properties across 129 countries and territories, announced a new Canada wide partnership that will support youth employment and grow the hospitality-talent pool nationally.
Prince’s Trust Canada works with innovative and dedicated employer partners like Marriott International to link young people facing barriers to employment with meaningful employment opportunities. Prior to the partnership announcement, the two organizations ran a successful pilot project in Toronto.
The new Get Into Hospitality program saw 12 under-employed young people in Toronto get two weeks of rigorous classroom training and two weeks of fully paid job shadowing training at Toronto area hotels. The young people finished the program with new skills, improved confidence and jobs. Marriott International committed to hiring at least 50% of the program participants.
In addition to helping young people struggling to find employment, the hospitality-focused curriculum and paid workplace experience program supports the expanding travel and tourism industry in Canada by preparing young Canadians for careers in the industry.

Strong performances by Canadian cricketers achieved key mandate of developing Canadian talent
Vancouver Knights’s victory Sunday in the Global T20 Canada (www.gt20.ca) championship match capped off a successful inaugural edition of the six-team league and provided glimpses of the potential of the first Twenty20 league to be fully staged in North America.
Played before a sellout festive crowd at Maple Leaf Cricket Club, the final, between Vancouver and Cricket West Indies B team, showcased the exciting Twenty20 form of cricket. On this stage, fittingly, a Canadian, Saad Bin Zafar made Canadian sporting history producing the performance of his career knocking in 79 runs to lead the Knights to the title, and the champion’s prize of C$500,000.
“Global T20 Canada brought the excitement of pro T20 cricket to Canada, along with many of the world’s top stars,” said Gurmeet Singh, Chairman, Global T20 Canada. “The final in front of a packed stadium and millions of fans watching via TV and streaming shows the sport’s potential not only in Canada, but also in North America, and we plan to achieve many more great milestones in future editions.”
