Jo Alcorn’s Top Spring Trends

I love spring! It’s a time to switch things up, refresh and renew your home and, more importantly, your backyard! I’ll be at the Backyard Living Expo coming up on April 6 for an on-stage presentation at 1:15pm and would love for you to join me to talk about all things backyard décor and design! As a sneak preview, here are my top 5 tips and trends for this season.

High Performance Outdoor Sound – I love music! I play it all day long and there’s no exception when I go outside to relax and enjoy the warmer weather. I love the high performance outdoor sound that Paradigm has to offer. Long gone are the days of the boom box or the huge speaker systems. This company offers discrete luxury speakers that can be wall mounted, deck mounted, faux rocks that can mix right into you garden and even garden oasis systems with an underground subwoofer for large areas.

Shading Style – While I love the outdoors, shade is of the utmost importance. This year I am obsessed with Pergolas. They have retractable systems that allow the light to shine in when you want a few rays, but you can also crank the roof closed when you need some shade. The great thing about these systems is that they can be built to spec for odd shapes, attached to an existing structure or they also have great stand alone units.

Grilling Galore – There is nothing Canadian’s love more than firing up the grill and as a designer when your grill can match your décor it’s even better! I love the new Weber Spirit ll series that comes in four bold colours so you can add the perfect barbeque to match your décor. My choice this year would be the gorgeous Ivory to add to my small space patio.  Spirit II gas grills are powered by Weber’s innovative GS4 grilling system to ensure every aspect of your grilling experience is easy and reliable. They are also iGrill 3 compatible and are backed by a 10-year 100% Weber Guarantee Warranty – from lid to wheels! JSW Group and ace fashion designer Manish Arora profess philosophy, ‘All We Need is Love”

JSW Groups’ iconic landmark Jindal Mansion, dons a master piece created by ace fashion designer Manish Arora in conjunction with St+art Mumbai. As a part of St+art Mumbai 2014 UK based artist, Filthy Luker, had installed giant inflatable tentacles on the mansion which caught everyone’s attention.

‘All We Need is Love.’ is the inspiration, and the title, of Arora’s installation. In a world filled so much chaos, conflict and hatred, positive imagery and messaging are extremely important. The installation aims to evoke emotions like love and encourage passersby to stop and think of beauty in the world. The JSW Group, Manish Arora and St+art India Foundation hope that this message will be an affirmation and a reminder to be hopeful for the future.

Mrs Sangita Jindal – Chairperson JSW Foundation says, as a patron of Art, I strongly believe that Art and Culture contribute towards the growth of  society and creates positive ripples of conversation for our future generations. It is important that art is inclusive and can be experienced by as wide an audience as possible. I am happy that Manish has used the canvas of our iconic Jindal Mansion, to spread love & joy this festive season.

“The inspiration for this art piece comes from my life philosophy, ‘All We Need is Love” and the designs showcase and interpret love in different forms. I want people to stop and ponder when they look at the installation and for that one minute, feel pure unadulterated love. In today’s social and political environment, it’s so important to remember its love that makes us human and connects all of us. 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Official Poster unveiled at Moscow Metro

With just three days to go to the Final Draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ in the Russian capital, the famed Moscow Metro held the unveiling of the last remaining visual icon of the event. For the 2018 issue of the Official Poster, the renowned Russian artist Igor Gurovich chose legendary Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin as a central figure of his work.

“The Official Poster of the 2018 FIFA World Cup is a true reflection of Russia’s artistic and football heritage,” commented FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura. “We are very proud of this beautiful landmark asset that portrays such an important icon and celebrates the coming tournament on Russian soil.”

“It was very important for us to portray Russia as the Host Country in the Official Poster,” added theChairman of the Russia 2018 Local Organising Committee Vitaly Mutko, “that’s why Lev Yashin was choosen, a symbol of Russian football, as the main figure. I’m sure that the poster will become one of the most memorable symbols of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and that fans and participants alike will approve of it.”

Yashin played in four FIFA World Cups – 1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970 – and remains the only goalkeeper in the history of football to win the Ballon d’Or. In the poster, he is dressed in his traditional outfit of black shirt and shorts, knee brace and his famous cap. He is shown reaching for the ball, one half of which is a typical football from Yashin’s era, with the other depicting the vast landmass of Russia as seen from space, reflecting a key inspiration of the 2018 FIFA World Cup brand, that of Russia’s achievements in space exploration.
