For the first time in Canada, the recently concluded annual Canadian International Auto Show showcased a car from Swedish sports car manufacturer Koenigsegg.

There were sports cars from McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari. CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL AUTOSHOW PRESENTS  50TH ANNIVERSARY OF HOT WHEELS

Celebration to feature Hot Wheels super track, six life-size Hot Wheels cars and a Collector’s Zone featuring more than 500 die-cast Hot Wheels models

The number one selling toy in the world is joining with the Canadian International AutoShow in presenting an explosion of activities to commemorate its 50thanniversary.

Developed by toy maker Mattel in 1968, Hot Wheels is one of the most iconic toys of all time making childhood — and adulthood — awesome for everyone.

The 50th anniversary of Hot Wheels will be a feature attraction of the 2018 AutoShow, being held Feb. 16-25 at the downtown Metro Toronto Convention Centre. While more than 1,000 conventionally powered cars and light trucks will be on display, the focus of this year’s show will be The New Movement. Manufacturers of 14 all-electric and hybrid vehicles will not only show them off but make them available for test drives.

There’s no doubt, however, that along with Art & the Automobile, Auto Exotica and Tuner Battlegrounds – AutoShow edition, the Hot Wheels anniversary will be a major attraction.

“Since 1968, we’ve made six billion cars that have contributed to the happiness of children and adults everywhere, Continue reading “CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL AUTOSHOW PRESENTS  50TH ANNIVERSARY OF HOT WHEELS”

Showcasing the Automotive ‘JEWELS’ with Cobble Beach at the 2018 Canadian International AutoShow

Art & the Automobile celebrates the industry’s iconic mascots and brands

The 2018 Canadian International AutoShow is pleased to announce the return of one of its most popular features, Art & the Automobile with Cobble Beach – but with a difference.

The display is entitled ‘Jewels’ – an appropriate name given the value and content of the exhibition.  The collection of assembled vehicles and mascots for the 2018 Exhibit will have a total insured value in excess of $20 million dollars.  While 17 classic cars will again be on display at the 2018 AutoShow, being held Feb. 16-25 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, all have been selected because of their distinctive mascots (hood ornaments) and badges which, in most cases, are works of art in themselves.

For example, a 1925 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost has a hood ornament called The Spirit of Ecstasy (a.k.a. The Flying Lady) that was designed by acclaimed British sculptor Charles Sykes. A 1929 Packard features an ornament called The Goddess of Speed.

When it comes to badging, a 1952 Alfa Romeo and a second 1952 car, a Jaguar, are examples of automobiles featuring the distinctive badges of those famous marques.

“This is the fourth year that the Art & the Automobile exhibit has appeared at the AutoShow,” said General Manager Jason Campbell, “and this years’ display will take the feature back to its artistic roots.  It’s always on the top of our consumers’ lists of favourite Show features, and this year will be no exception.” Continue reading “Showcasing the Automotive ‘JEWELS’ with Cobble Beach at the 2018 Canadian International AutoShow”
