Prime Minister receives congratulatory telephone calls from world leaders
The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, issued the following statement on the results of India’s general election: “On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his re-election. “Over 39 days of polling, a record number of Indian citizens cast their votes and more women voted than ever before in the world’s largest democracy.
“Canada and India share tremendous people-to-people ties, with over one million people of Indian descent calling Canada home. Our longstanding friendship, together with our shared values, will continue to bring our two countries closer and help create new opportunities for our people.
“I look forward to continuing to work with Prime Minister Modi to improve the lives of Canadians and Indians alike through education and innovation, investing in trade and investment, and fighting climate change.”
India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi received congratulatory telephone calls from leaders across the world including from Ms. Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh; Mr. Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, King of Bhutan; Dr. Lotay Shering, Prime Minister of Bhutan; Mr. K.P. Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal; Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, President of Maldives; Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka; Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of Russia; Mr Emmanuel Macron, President of France; Mr. Abe Shinzo, Prime Minister of Japan; Mr. Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of Australia; Mr. Pravind Jugnauth; Prime Minister of Mauritius; Mr. Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of UAE; and Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel on the victory in the General Elections 2019.
Warmly felicitating the Prime Minister, the leaders expressed the view that the historic mandate reflected the abiding faith of the people of India in the leadership of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
Expressing his gratitude for their compliments and good wishes, the Prime Minister said that the general elections embodied the strength of Indian democracy, which is the world’s largest. He thanked the global leaders for their cooperation in developing mutually beneficial bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation, and expressed his desire to continue to work further with them in fostering even stronger ties.
The Prime Minister has also expressed his gratitude to several other leaders who have extended their felicitations to him over social media and other means.
