 –Staff Reporter, Mississauga

Agarwals Based in Canada (ABC) celebrated their 20th Anniversary Gala on Nov. 11th with much ado and a lot of aplomb! The atmosphere was alive with laughter, friendships and celebrations at the Lakeshore Convention Centre in Mississauga.

The sold-out crowd of 425 guests in Mississauga was especially graced by the presence of special dignitaries: MPP Dipika Damerla and The Honorable Mayor of Mississauga, Bonnie Crombie. They both encouraged and thanked the  organization for their involvement in the mainstream community as well as for their role in promoting the youth of the Indian diaspora.

Other highlights of the evening included the cutting of the cake by the founder members present and the video message of the couple now residing in BC. What started as a coalition of four couples in a basement, has in 20 years, grown to an organization with a few hundred members.

The in- house musical performance by ABC members of all ages from five to 50 years depicted a montage of the various events that ABC organizes, a well -deserved tribute to its growth and its journey through the twenty years. The evening was adequately punctuated by professional performances, by the flute and shehnai maestro, Sahil Khan and the fire and banner performances of Illuminair Entertainment.

The cherry on top of this night was the signature Diwali Puja, the launch of the organization’s first ever crafted magazine and the institution of the “Distinguished Community Leadership and Excellency Award”

which for the first time, was awarded to, Dr. Samir Gupta for his outstanding charitable work in the field of medicine.
