– FIRST EVER SOLAR UPPER DECK TO BE UNVEILED FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS AND VISITORS WITH FREE SPECIALIZED VIEWING GLASSES BEING GIVEN OUT
Freeport, NY (August 17, 2017) — Village of Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy and local astronomy experts will join area residents for Long Island’s largest eclipse viewing reception being held on Monday August 21, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., 340 Woodcleft Ave, Freeport, NY, on the famed Nautical mile. Hudson’s on the Mile Restaurant and local astronomers will be unveiling Long Island’s first elevated solar viewing party deck. They will host a reception with specialized viewing glasses being given out to the first 100 people.
The astronomy experts will explain and analyze the eclipse for local residents, step-by-step, as the historic event takes place. Hundreds are spectators are expected to attend the special reception. The solar viewing deck has one of the highest elevated views of the water and the sky on the Nautical Mile and in the area. There will be free cosmic treats for all those attending.
Viewing the eclipse without the special glasses is not advised because it can seriously burn and damage a person’s eyes. The solar eclipse is the first of its kind in 99 years. Solar eclipses occur when the moon blocks any part of the sun. The result is that the sun and the moon appear to be the same size from Earth’s perspective. When they line up just right, the moon can obscure the sun’s entire surface, creating a total solar eclipse.
Partial solar eclipses occur when the alignment is such that the moon blocks only part of the sun, and these can occur more frequently. There are celebrations for the solar ellipse being held in communities across the Nation.
