The Consulate General of India in Toronto was delighted to ring in another 15th August this year, to celebrate India’s 70th Independence Day.
Consul General Mr. Dinesh Bhatia and his wife welcomed over 300 guests at the reception held in Hilton Garden Inn, Vaughan. The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Honorable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, was the Guest of Honor on the occasion.
The gathering of around 300 included prominent local dignitaries, members of the Diplomatic Corps, academicians, business persons and members of the Indo-Canadian community. The ceremony kicked off with the singing of National Anthems of Canada and India. This was followed by greetings from the Chief Guest, the Lieutenant Governor.
During his address, Consul General Mr. Bhatia saluted the Indo-Canadian community for their hard work, sincerity and dedication and for acting as a strong bridge between the two great democracies of the world. He also welcomed everyone to attend the parade and cultural festival which will take place at Yonge-Dundas Square on August 20th.
On this occasion, greeting messages sent by Premier Kathleen Wynne premier was also read out to the audience. .The National Day Ceremony was followed by a grand, delicious banquet, catered by Maharaja Restaurant.
The place was beautifully decorated with the Indian Tricolor Flag as the backdrop. There were huge display screens which continuously played the celebrations from New Delhi, India, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flag hoisting. The guests who were dressed in their traditional finery looked enthusiastic and excited to participate in the joyous occasion.
