Indo-Canadian musician Vandana Vishwas who recently won the 2016 Toronto Independent Music
Awards, released her third full length music album ‘Parallels’ in Mississauga on Friday, 11th November 2016.
Multiple US and Canadian award winner, nominee, honourable mention holder and an ex-All India Radio artist, Vandana Vishwas is known for her flawless voice, pure notes and crisp diction of south Asian languages which is rarely found outside of the Indian subcontinent. A bold, Out-of-Box composer who is not afraid of experimenting with unlikely combinations of Indian music with other genres, Vandana is one of the few original south Asian music composers and producers in Canada who are equally revered in and out of India.
Vandana’s new album ‘Parallels’ is the first of its kind featuring collaboration of Indian music with different genres of mainstream and World music such as Flamenco, Country, African, New-Age, Ballad etc., making each song unique, resulting in 5 pairs of ten unique ‘Parallel’songs.
Hon. MPP Mississauga East-Cooksville and Minister Responsible for Senior Affairs Ms. Dipika Damerla was the guest of honour who released the album by opening the CD and cutting the World Premiere cake. The release was followed by maiden screening of music video for ‘Mai Beqaid Flamenco’, one of the songs from the album and a short concert by Vandana who performed the parallel track of the same song, this time interpreted in Country music. She next performed ‘Fiqr E Manzil’, a traditional Ghazal composed by her Guru Mr. D.K. Gandhe, accompanied by co-producer Vishwas Thoke on guitar and Anil Roopchund on Tabla.
She then performed the same song in Rock style on track. Vandana also sang Bollywood classic ‘Lag Ja Gale’, promoting the audience to erupt into a loud applause as soon as the song started. Classic era Bollywood superstar Tanuja arrived unannounced at the venue in the middle of the programme to congratulate Vandana, as she likes her music and wanted to be a part of the event. As soon as Vandana realized Tanuja was among the audience, Vandana sang the famous song ‘Meri Jaan’ from Tanuja’s movie ‘Anubhav’ in her honour, triggering another loud applause from the audience.
The event was hosted by Deepali Rana of Malhar Group and attended by many eminent musicians such as Richard Henderson who has played on ‘Parallels’, south Asian media, entrepreneurs, art aficionados, personalities from leading south Asian cultural organizations such as Panorama, Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce etc. and the event was covered for television by ATN.
All in all, it was a very tightly organized programme that shifted gears continuously and did not give the audience to catch their breath until the end, which was highlighted by arrival of the Bollywood legend Tanuja who came there specially to congratulate Vandana. The audience appreciated the programme very much.
